One of the critical aspects to seeing nations discipled is to be a people of vision. Vision must be an essential value of our lives as we walk upon the earth. Proverbs 29:18 declares; “Without vision the people perish.”
A number of years ago God began to teach me the importance of vision. I had been wrestling in my heart with some of the prophetic insight I believed He was leading me to share with the body Christ. I was struggling because it seemed like the understanding He was giving me was far beyond where the people of God were currently living. He responded by clearly saying; “If you don’t release vision for what I want to do, the people of God can never go there.” We have been given the command from heaven to disciple nations. I believe heaven is releasing vision to see from God’s perspective what it looks like to see nations discipled and what our individual role in discipling nations must be. Visionary people are individuals who choose to see reality and the future from God’s perspective. They also understand they serve in a co-laboring role to create the future with God.
With the start of a new year, many people have resolutions or goals that they hope to pursue or start. Let me encourage you in this: resolve, by the grace of God, to be person of vision. If we are to see nations discipled this must be a priority. Here are just few practical tools I have learned that allow the people of God to be visionary people.
a) We have a choice:
Each day we must make a willful choice with see reality from God’s perspective
b) Establish a relationship with God:
One of the fruits of walking with God is seeing reality from His perspective. Choose to have
greater intentionality as you seek the goodness of God (John 17:3).
c) Seek to live out God’s great command to love AND pursue power:
Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind. Be a person who pursues the power of the Holy
Spirit. Consistently pursue a lifestyle of power. Matthew 22:37)
d) Be a part of a community of believers known as the local church:
Community with the local church is part of God’s design for you and me (Matthew 16:19).
My experience is that people who recognize and pursue these principles are naturally visionary people. As we enter into 2015 may you be in a greater measure and depth be a person who sees reality from the Father’s perspective.
