I was recently 35,000 feet in the air, somewhere between Atlanta and Cincinnati, and I heard the Lord say; “When a believer lives out the Gospel as God intends, it’s supposed to have a benefit on society regardless of whether society converts as a whole.”
This statement struck me profoundly. I began to think back to when God created the earth and how He told man to “fill the earth and subdue it” (Genesis 1:28). What does that look like to us today?
The obvious answer, of course, is that we are to fill the earth with the knowledge of the glory of God. Signs, wonders, miracles, prophetic words and even born again experiences are all very important, but we must come to the understanding that God’s glory is not limited to just those few expressions. He must be represented in us, His people, in everything we do and in everything we touch… in our careers, relationships, even in the way we react during difficult times. God’s glory is released on the earth when we do life with Him. And as we do life differently than the unbeliever, the unbeliever actually benefits from it. When we live out of the glory of God, they see how they were created to live and are drawn to us and to Him. How awesome is that?!
As a church, we have historically gotten God results when we have pursued His commands. What do I mean? We do well when we preach the Gospel. We live in such an incredible time. It is my understanding there have been more salvations in the last ten years than any other time period in the history of the world! Just let that sink in. But we must not stop at just preaching the Gospel of salvation. We must preach the Gospel of the Kingdom. One of the mandates of the Kingdom message is this: to fill the earth with the knowledge and glory of God. We have seen partial results because we focused on a partial expression of the gospel. It’s time for a paradigm shift in the body of Christ. We have never left one move of God to the next generation because we have neglected to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom. This is not just a salvation message!
Loren Cunningham, the founder of YWAM, wrote The Book That Transforms Nations. In it, he tells the story of how in the early years of film making in America, a group of Hollywood producers wrote numerous Christian universities asking for their brightest and best to join them in Hollywood. They would literally help shape the film industry. Sadly, the response from these university leaders was that they would rather see their students go to hell them have them take part in what was happening in Hollywood. The Body of Christ in this nation missed a crucial moment in history.
We who are in Christ are given as a gift from God to this world. Our mandate is to disciple nations, and discipled nations is what G-d demands.
