This month I want to take a reflective look at some of the things the Lord spoke to me as we entered into this year. If you’d like to see the complete word the Lord gave me for 2016, it’s available here for download. One of the things that really struck me was when the Holy Spirit said that “There are those in the earth who have defined how they will proceed according to the wisdom of man and according to the world’s system.” While I believe the Holy Spirit was referring to believers who operate according to the wisdom of man and this world system, a refreshing promise in the same word was; that the desire of the Holy Spirit is to teach His people the ways of the Kingdom that would make us fruitful here upon the earth.
A reality that I desire to live as one of the foundations of my life is that the Kingdom of God is a way of life. At the inception of creation the earth was made completely perfect. It was a perfect expression of what God desired. Everything was set up for man (humankind) to fulfill his God given destiny, to be an ambassador of God here upon the earth, and to extend the will, Kingdom, and domain of God. We know that Adam and Eve sinned and that set things out of order. But believers, through the blood of Jesus, now have life in the Kingdom of God. Yes, the Kingdom of God is a way of life, and it is where we find our life.
I was with a pastor recently and he told me of this encounter he had with Jesus. One of the things that the Lord told him in this encounter was this; give people the message of life - Because it’s the greatest message that I’ve ever given them. Yes! Jesus said in John 14 “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” So it’s imperative that we transform the way we think so we can express the will of God here upon the earth. Every one of us comes into the kingdom of God with our own ideas, culture, trauma, and difficulty. Whether we know it or not we are choosing to think a certain way when we’re in the kingdom. But now that we’re in the kingdom the question becomes; are we thinking about life according to God’s way of thinking?
Here are some principles I’ve found that will put us on the path to thinking like God and to walking in the ways of the kingdom:
Principle 1: Romans 12:1-2 says we must present ourselves as a living sacrifice. We must, in a sense, make a conscience decision to give the dominion of God over every part of our life. We must also make a commitment to think like God so we can express His thought pattern and bring fruitfulness to the world around us.
Principle 2: There’s always evidence to what we choose to make a commitment to. I always ask myself what’s the evidence that I’ve made Jesus Lord over a particular situation. I encourage you, even as we’re in just the first few months of 2016 to be a person who evaluates where you are. The apostle Paul said to test yourself to see whether you’re in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5). Self-evaluation is a sign that you’ve taken responsibility for your own spiritual development. Another question you can ask yourself is this; do you find your thinking changing? Because a kingdom principle is this: A double-minded man can receive nothing from God (James 1:8). So we’re either thinking like God or we’re thinking like the system of this world. Where you find yourself double minded ask yourself this question; what does God think about it?
The Kingdom of God is truly a way of life. It’s a place where we can walk in peace and hope and have the wisdom of God to live out the purpose of God that will point people to Him. One of the great things that God is doing in the earth right now is teaching people the ways of heaven -to be effective in the earth.
